Find answers to some of the most common questions about our adult orthodontic services at The Oakwood Clinic.
No, orthodontic treatment is suitable for adults as well. Many adults choose to straighten their teeth to improve their smile and dental health, and modern orthodontic treatments at The Oakwood Clinic offer discreet options that fit into your lifestyle.
The length of treatment varies depending on the complexity of the case and the type of braces used. On average, treatment can take anywhere from 12 months to 24 months. We’ll discuss your individual timeframe for treatment as part of your treatment plan.
Yes! We offer clear aligners like Invisalign and ceramic braces, which are less noticeable than traditional metal braces. These options provide a more discreet way to straighten your teeth without sacrificing effectiveness.
Most patients with braces will need to visit the clinic every 4 to 6 weeks for adjustments and progress checks. However, for those using clear aligners, follow-up appointments are typically every 6 to 8 weeks. To make your orthodontic journey more convenient, we also offer remote and video consultations for retainer checks, as well as Invisalign Virtual Care, allowing us to track your progress from the comfort of your home with fewer trips to our clinic.
With clear aligners, you can remove them to eat and drink, which makes mealtime easy. With traditional braces, you’ll need to avoid hard, sticky, or chewy foods to prevent damage to the braces.
Orthodontic treatment may cause some discomfort, especially after adjustments. However, this discomfort is temporary and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief if necessary.
After your treatment, you’ll be given a retainer to keep your teeth in their new position. Retainers can be either fixed or removable and are crucial to maintaining your new smile for life.
